Thanks to a mutually inspiring partnership between MJMD Studio, EcoMinded Solutions and our client, the Waage Family, this beautifully programmed outdoor retreat reflects the client's desire to entertain and live "San Diego" style.

The Valletta Residence creates a unique opportunity through new challenges. It's narrow dimensions and lack of access are inspiration for MJMD Studio to design something one-of-a-kind for the Client. By using space efficiently, choosing high quality finishes and materials, and a textural plant palette that thrives in Banker's Hill's coastal climate, this urban retreat will shine for years to come.

It's not often the opportunity arises to contribute to a project with such immense historic weight. The Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation works diligently with the National Park Service to provide preservation, restoration, and maintenance services and guidance on a long term basis. Working with the Center, our designs for the historic parterre gardens at Towson National Historic Site will endure, giving visitors a glimpse of this estate's glory days.
The Alpine Garden project is a fantastic example of designing with nature. The site's climate conditions demanded a plant palette that would tolerate extreme drought with intermittent flooding. Rocky soils and wonderfully sloping terrain led us to the concept of an alpine theme at the top of the slope, slowly meandering to a wetland style garden below, with plenty of sedges and rushes to accommodate the fluctuating availability of water.
Two years after implementation, this inland retreat grows more relaxing each day for it's residents. Another happy collaboration between MJMD Studio and AnandaScapes, LLC.

Drip Cafe & Nursery is a long running personal project. Eventually, Drip will be a casual, welcoming boutique where you can come to pick up a fresh cup of joe or a local pint and a succulent or two.

Working again with Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture to transform this dated landscape, the Tash Residence shines with a new floating step design, drought resistant planting scheme and fresh modern adornments throughout.

The Fleming Residence is located in an up and coming neighborhood near downtown San Diego. The client needed to transform their narrow lot to accommodate a variety of uses. Ultimately, the design called for a front courtyard/carport and a private rear terraced fire retreat with space for the dog to play. It was a pleasure working with Ms. Fleming to bring her project to life in time for her husband to return from duty!

IN CONCEPT DESIGN PHASE
Set in the breathtaking hills of North San Diego County, this home at Sanctuary at San Elijo Hills is privy to gorgeous 180 degree views. A new build, everything from flooring to fixtures has been hand picked by the clients. They desire an oasis for outdoor living complete with outdoor kitchen, edible garden, spa retreat and a variety of intimate courtyard spaces. Playing off the home's Spanish Colonial theme, a modern mediterranean motif is the perfect setting for this young couple to entertain.

With beautiful views the McBrayer Residence begged for an equally stunning design. After receiving the Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture's phenomenal concept, we worked together to create a new planting scheme, hardscape design and irrigation design.

The Wakefield Estate is a historical/cultural treasure that serves as an educational landscape for learning about local history, legacy, ecology, horticulture, agriculture and more. For the Wakefield Estate, MJMD Studio provided an exploration of way-finding routes through the entire property and its most essential destinations, as well as a central "hub" and parking accommodations for tourists and visitors.
Currently, the Jackson Place Luxury Rentals of Eastlake/Chula Vista are in the design development phase. With Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture, MJMD Studio worked to design a variety of spaces including a Community Rec. Area with pool, dog park, Tot-Lot and a multitude of beautifully conceived passive recreation areas for the future tenants to enjoy.
Each of the following works is an exploration in form and contrast, color and space, balance and controlled chaos. We like to work through a multitude of theorem in two dimensions before applying them in the landscapes we design. No one allied discipline stands disconnected from the others. To understand the complex spaces we occupy, we must explore every facet of art.
There is no substitute for taking pencil to paper; roughly sketching ideas, while gaining a visceral knowledge of the design. While most of our designs eventually become vectors in AutoCAD, they all start with a sketch. Please take a look at a few select concept drawings. They range from custom element design and character perspectives, to multi-modal transport streetscapes and residential streetscapes that employ integrated storm water infiltration swales.
